I am OBSESSED

My semester of school is over, thank God! I was able to finish all my essays and my portfolio without resorting to all-nighters. But even though it’s been a week+ since I finished school, I am still bloody tired. Might have something to do with the TV I’ve been watching.

I AM OBSESSED! (like it says in the title)

I have discovered this show (technically a pair of shows) from the UK called Ashes to Ashes. It’s a sequel to Life on Mars, and is about a police woman from 2008 who gets shot in the head and wakes up in 1981. Basically, a science fiction/police procedural. DI Alex Drake follows in LOM’s Sam Tyler’s footsteps and ends up in the same world as he did, only ten years later and in London (he ended up in 1973 Manchester) with a few of his coworkers.

I’m not sure how else to describe this show without sounding all fangirl. But I absolutely love this show! I have seen both Season 1 and 2, and 3 has just started, though I see it about a day after the Brits see it. I have seen most of LOM’s Season 1, but I am not as enthused about Sam’s show as I am about Alex’s. Might be the dynamic between Alex and her DCI, Gene Hunt.

I guess one of the attractions to this show is trying to figure out whether Alex is in a coma dreaming all of this up, or if it really is real. I’m kinda in the middle. I’d like to believe that this is all real, probably because the characters in the ’80s are quite interesting and lovable. But this is probably all in her mind as a way to escape the trauma of being shot.

Another attraction is all that ’80s stuff. I used to hate music and clothes associated with the ’80s, and now I’m kinda liking it. Scary. I listen to the music from the show almost religiously. I haven’t started wearing ’80s clothes yet, thank God. But I have been wondering what I hated so much about those clothes, aside from the high-waisted, large butt pants, the chunky jewellry and the crazy patterns. Perhaps these characters make the ’80s actually seem cool.

Alright, I’ll shut up now. Maybe I’ll rewatch the first episode of the third season tonight, hehehe.
